The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule is in so many religions that it must be a pretty good rule. People have different ways of saying the Golden Rule, but they mean the same thing.

Confucius, a wise man who lived in China centuries ago, said it this way: "What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others."

Rabbi Hillel, a famous teacher of the Jewish people in ancient times, also had a Golden Rule: "What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow man."

Jesus also had a Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

We could say the Golden Rule in others ways, too. Here's one: "You don't like it when people are mean to you, so don't be mean to other people." Or how about: "You like it when people are nice to you, so be nice to other people." Just think how nice the world would be if everyone lived by the Golden Rule!!

What way of saying the Golden Rule do you like best?
